Description
Although their concentration was on ancient theatre musical recitation, the Florentine intellectuals and musicians from the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century focused mainly on the spoken song. Their compositions shaped the occidental music history: the so-called arias from composers like Jacopo Peri, Guilio Caccini or Claudio Monteverdi (to name only a few) soon became popular throughout Europe.
The Italian tenor William Mateuzzi now focused on this early canto art repertoire. Together with the lute player Huber Hoffmann and the Münchner Barocksolisten conducted by Hans Ludwig Hirsch he presents selected “jewels” of these compositions. Included are well-known arias like “Amarilli mia bella” as well as Robert Jones “Ite caldi sospiri”.
