It was not performed very often and when it was it was widely reworked as, for example, the version of Richard Strauss. However, during the last decades of the 20th century, the understanding for this form, the so called Opera seria, rose. “Idomeneo” was rediscovered as the great work that it was, finally becoming famous.
In 1965 Peter Maag decided to perform this opus and together with well known soloists, the Coro and the Orchestra Sinfonica RAI di Roma, he recorded Mozart’s early work. ARTS MUSIC now proudly presents this vital and passionate interpretation in the remastered 24 bit / 96 kHz ARCHIVES format.
