After the awards winning B minor Mass, ARTS and the Swiss Radio are proud to offer a
stunning new performance of Bach's Johannes Passion, recorded live in Lugano. Diego Fasolis
conducts Swiss Radio Chorus and Ensemble Vanitas (an orchestra on period instruments that
collects members of the main Italian baroque orchestras (Il Giardino Armonico, Sonatori della
Gioiosa Marca and others) in a memorable and dramatic performance, transforming Bach's
masterpiece in a real operatic piece. The cast offers the amazing voices of Roberta Invernizzi,
Claudia Schubert, Jeremy Ovenden and Klaus Mertens in the arias and the revelation Nico van
der Meel as Evangelist.
The reviews after the concert that took place in Lugano were so enthusiastic that unanimously
the critics acclaimed the performance as one of the most terrific musical experience of their life.
If the French magazine "R‚p‚rtoire" stated in the February issue reviewing Fasolis' B minor
Mass "There is only one B minor Mass from now on: this one", we can believe that this new
Johannes-Passion will be also the one to possess in everybody's collection.
