Description
“Cherubini has perhaps never before demonstrated a more virile talent, a more dramatic, knowing inspiration than in the composition of “Les Abencerages”: in this composition especially the great musician has managed to achieve a personal combination of the wealth of harmony that is the pride of the German school and the correct, strongly accented expression demanded by the French stage.” (Auguste Wahlen - 1813)
Only a few know Cherubini’s Opera “Les Abencerages” and for many decades the opera was completely forgotten. To hear again the original French version of “Les Abencerages”, however, we had to wait for the radio production of 15th January 1975 which Peter Maag and Radio Italiana chose to perform. This is a production that returned to the original three-act version of the opera.
ARTS has now managed to recover this treasure from the archives and will release this wonderful opera of heroes with the complete French libretto in January 2006. A treasure that cannot be found anywhere else on the market to date!
