French King Louis XV was a gloomy admirer of Vivaldi's music and encouraged its performance court. Nicolas Chedeville, born 1705, attended the first performance of "The Four Seasons" in France and decided to invent a French version of this music. Chedeville, known to be an adapter of several contemporary works created a version of  "The Four Seasons" including instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy and the musette which were extremely popular in Versailles at this time. Thus, under the patronage of the king and as naive counterpart to Vivaldi's work, the concertos "Les Saisons Amusantes" were composed.
