Description

A wonderful cast for a stunning performance of the famous Bach's Mass in B minor. Five of the
best voices in the baroque field join one of the leading baroque chorus in Europe and one of the
most well known Italian instrumental ensemble in a first class recording based on a live
performance in Lugano, Switzerland. ARTS' Authentic series enriches itself with a major issue
that follows the other highly successful productions released in co-production with the Swiss
Radio (among them Bach's Magnificat and Cantata BWV 21, Purcell's Ode for St.Caecilia's
Day, Carissimi's Oratorios). This is a performance that offers a "new" Bach, following a
conception closer to the southern European tradition. The chorus, composed by 16 well known
soloists of baroque music and the orchestra, which includes the best Italian continuo players,
give a special character to the performance, placing it far away from the usual German tradition.
A double CD-set, not to be missed by anyone who loves the baroque music on philological
performance.

- An outstanding cast for a "Mediterranean" performance of Bach's greatest Mass
- A further addition in the highly successful series co-produced with the Swiss Radio
- Philological performance on authentic instruments
- Recording of the highest quality
- Booklet with various essays in four languages

AWARDS (25.11.2004)

Goldberg (13.10.2004)

"Exceptional ... very well recorded ... The excellent orchestral playing is wonderfully alive and pointed, and the small Swiss choir (22 strong) articulate precisely and cleanly, as indeed they do throughout ... heavenly duetting of Invernizzi and Dawson ... brilliantly incisive trumpets and bold, crisp timpani leading onto some thrillingly vibrant choral work ... Fasolis, a conductor ... whose inspired direction galvanises his forces to electrifying effect. This is a highly distinguished set that can take place among the very best versions"
