Description

After the end of the Second World War André Cluytens certainly was one of the most acclaimed conductors all over Europe. He studied at the Flemish Royal Conservatory in his hometown Antwerp and was afterwards employed as a répétiteur at the theatres of Antwerp, Toulouse, Lyon and Bordeaux. In 1947 he became music director of the Opéra-Comique in Paris and was named successor of the chief conductor Charles Munich at the “Concerts de Conservatoire”. Cluytens is especially known for his preference of French repertoire but was also fond of conducting German, Italian and Russian symphonic and lyric works.

ARTS MUSIC now presents another ARCHIVES recording from this famous conductor. The recording on hand was taped in 1962 when Cluytens was at the height of his career. The masters were carefully remastered and now offer a splendid sound happening in the crystal clear 24 bit / 96 kHz technique. Simply lean back and be swept away by this beautiful interpretation!

FonoForum (17.08.2007)

"the interpretation of André Cluytens "Firebird" is mysterious and elaborate"

"Geheminisvoll und raffiniert wirkt der "Feuervogel" unter André Cluytens...Die "Bilder" wirken wie impressionistisch hingetupft, selten hat man den Anteil Ravels so stark empfunden wie hier"

Crescendo Belgium (30.04.2007)

"Pour fans de Cluytens, essentiellement"

"Essentiall for Cluytens fans"

"One novelty to the Cluytens discography and some highly communicative, if not always immaculate, music-making"

"it is a worthy document of a conductor who lived his love for Ravel to the fullest and whose insights into that composer's work are both a treat to the ear and immensly useful for future generations of performers"

"The music comes together nicely under the maestro's baton, the orchestra being very responsive for him, imparting the variety of nuance, lyricism, rhythm, and mystery as required. All told, this disc is a success"
