Description
Today there are still a lot of interesting facts that can be discovered in 16th century music. Ottavio Dantone and his ensemble Accademia Bizantina now have recorded a selection of this repertoire on historic instruments exclusively for ARTS MUSIC. Compositions from famous composers like Girolamo Frescobaldi or Johann Hieronymus Kapsberger are combined with works from rather forgotten artists like Giovanni Maria Trabaci and Andrea Falconiero.
Accademia Bizantina was founded in Ravenna in 1983 and at the beginning led by their own members. The entry of the harpsichord player Ottavio Dantone in the nineties brought about a change for the ensemble. The Accademia assigned the leadership to him and expanded its repertoire immensely. Today the Accademia Bizantina is one of the most important ensembles for historic practices. For their ARTS recordings they won notable international prices.
