Description

Not only a superb interpretation of Mahler's Two: by no question technically the most terrific
recording of this masterpiece. You will feel yourself simply involved in the gorgeous
atmosphere made by 250 and more performers, strongly participating to the effects of the
powerful change of dynamics. Here it is the test recording for every Hi-Fi fan, the one that
better shows the enormous potential of 24-bit / 96 KHz technique. Even if the best results can
be obtained in the forthcoming DVD version (ARTS 47601-6 in one DVD only), also the
usual CD version secures deep sound emotions. But beware of the loudspeakers (...and
beware of your neighbourhoods)!!
Oleg Caetani, the son of the much praised Igor Markevitch who decided to take his mother's
name not to be conditioned by his father's renown, offers a strong reading with high tension
throughout the five movements of the symphony. The live recording made in Chemnitz (the
old German city between Dresden and Leipzig) shows also an orchestra, the Robert-
Schumann-Philharmonie in perfect form and two excellent soloists, besides a large chorus (in
effect three combined choruses - included a children chorus - ). Can this recording and Oleg
Caetani put in discussion the excellent discography of this celebrated Symphony? We believe
yes. Anyway it will be one of the most interesting achievements in the technical side by far.

- a memorable recording of Mahler's Symphony No.2
- a test recording for all Hi-Fi fans
- Oleg Caetani's debut recording on Arts with his German orchestra
- Available on 2 CDs high resolution sound at mid-price and shortly on one DVD with
original 24-bit 96KHz
