Reviews:

Classical.net (20.04.2015)

(...) Maag leads naturally flowing and always effervescent readings, light and crisp while still aptly dramatic. The Madrid players bring a welcome - and absolutely essential - energy to these occasionally heavy-handed pieces. (...) While the Madrid players may lack the razor-sharp attacks of George Szell's golden-age Cleveland band, the overall feel for the music is far superior. Of course, this additional warmth the Spanish find could very well be due to Arts' vastly superior sonic reproduction (...).but those looking for a single disc with these two symphonies may have trouble finding better. (Brian Wigman)

"The tempos, phrasing, color, rhythm, and overall feel reflect Maag's full absorption of Mendelssohn's personal style"

AWARDS (26.11.2004)

Fono Forum (17.06.2004)

"Even with 82 years, Peter Maag shows no lack of energy ... both sinfonies are highly concentrated, full of suspense and sound excitingly young" CD of the month

American Record Guide (17.06.2004)

"The last recording ... From the great Swiss-born conductor Peter Maag ... Mendelssohn, a composer Maag dearly loved ... Fascinating contrast of style and form"

Cescendo (17.06.2004)

"Youthful freshness .. perfect balance between the insolence of frivolity and maturing ambitions. These seldom performed works probably cannot be "righter" played"

Fono Forum (D) (17.06.2004)

"Mit 82 Jahren ... Zeigt Peter Maag keinerlei Nachlassen der Energie ... Beide Sinfonien sind so hoch konzentriert und so spannungsvoll, daß sie aufregend jung klingen" FonoForum

Crescendo (D) (17.06.2004)

"jugendliche Frische ... Perfekte Balance zwischen federnder Leichtigkeit und den ausgreifenden Ambitions. "Richtiger" kann man die beiden selten zu hörenden Werke kaum spielen"
