As a result of its critical content the selection of the cast for the debut performances dragged on to ridiculous lengths through a cascade of refusals. Eight month later the symphony was finally performed and the audience’s reaction was very positive. Even the western world, which shortly before had condemned the propaganda excesses of the Twelfth Symphony, praised the bold stance that the musician had taken against power.
The conductor Oleg Catani, supported by the Choir and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, again deals with this censorious problem skilfully. He is further assisted by the bass soloist Pavel Kudinov who manages to interpret the poems with his beautiful voice powerfully.
ARTS presents a particularly well performed masterwork released on a DSD 5+1 multichannel surround sound Hybrid SACD. An outstanding and spectacular sound happening!

Part of the Box-Set 47850-8:
"Oleg Caetani manages to draw dramatic pictographic interpretations. Caetani is a maestro when in comes to compile opposed characters"
