Description

Shostakovich's Eighth Symphony is a dramatic, sorrowful voyage through the tragedy of war. The reference is to the Second World War and becomes a memento of the destruction and death that war has inevitably created in all times.

Critics now compare his Eighth Symphony with Beethoven's Fifth, Bruckner's Eighth and Mahlers's Second, symphonies that depict mankind in decisive moments of truth, pain and death.

ARTS presents this work that attracted critical interest in the past as an exclusive Hybrid SACD in October 2005. This production is disk number six in row of the big ARTS SHOSTKOVICH CYCLE.

Part of the Box-Set 47850-8:

"Oleg Caetani manages to draw dramatic pictographic interpretations. Caetani is a maestro when in comes to compile opposed characters"
