Description

''The Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, led by Riccardo Chailly since 1999, is a very fine one, particularly when the players are all clearly giving 100 percent. Oleg Caetani also evidently has a strong affinity for this music, offering the kind of raw, over-the-top intensity characteristic of the finest Russian performances'', wrote Dave Hurwitz in classicstoday.com.

This box includes fantastic and highly valuable recordings of all Shostakovich Symphonies. The single discs were warmly recommended by the press and have received highest scores and awards from audiophile magazines like Suonare News, Japanese Record Geijutsu, Fanfare, MUSICA, Amadeus (CD of the Month!), BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone or classicstoday.com.

The USP's of this box certainly are:

  • The crystal clear sound: recorded in 24bit / 96kHz, not compressed at any time of production
  • SACD layer in DSD 5.1 surround sound

"excellent live sonics.....this is a good bit more exciting than Kitayenko's SACD set on Capriccio"

"Oleg Caetani manages to draw dramatic pictographic interpretations. Caetani is a maestro when in comes to compile opposed characters"

"The performances here are distinguished by assurance and by convincing musical engagement: these admirable qualities ensure the set can be recommended"

The Absolute Sound (01.12.2006)

"What separates Caetani's set from the pack, aside from the fine sonics, is the intensity of much of the playing, the power of his climaxes, and his attention to lyrical passages"

DIAPASON (09.11.2006)

We remark the great result of Symphonies nos. 4, 8, 11 where the extraordinary polyphony of the score and the richness of the climax are perfectly animated. A superb recording…magnifies these modern references. ….. Caetani transmits to his musicians the relish for narration, the epic sense for phrasing and the passion for this music
