The music by Cristian Carrara has a very precious gift: these days it has become more and more rare for contemporary composers to speak directly to the heart of the listener and to cross barriers erected by decades of complex intellectual ruminations and cultural dogmas imposed by sterile logic of party. […] the protagonist is the music of Carrara, with its message and its direct communicative power, it can provide answers to all accessible, but on one condition, that there is an open question from the listener. This reissue [of ARTS 47616] is in SACD sound, giving it a new number. Comparing the sound on the two Arts discs, the SACD is slightly more emphatic in the upper partials than the earlier issue, but that sound was excellent, too. […] but I can vouch for the fine quality and clarity of both. If your interest is primarily in the cello sonatas, this is clearly a must since I know of no other recordings of them, and they are lovely, imaginative four-movement works. […] fine performances of great music. (D. Moore)
Concerti Grossi & Cello Sonatas

Jahr: 2011
Released in: Audiophile Audition

Cellist Mauro Valli and his accompanists (Tiziano Bagnati, lute, and Ottavio Dantone, harpsichord) have made some executive decisions that impact positively on the performances. The members of Accademia Bizantina really get inside these pieces to provide a compelling musical experience. Again, superb engineering - the Arts Music label seems to specialize in applying SACD recording technique to the benefit of soloists and small ensembles: the Accademia Bizantina fills the listening room with beguiling musical sounds. Heartily recommended! (Lee Passarella)
