"An interesting release containing much good music"

ultraaudio.com
"The soloists are placed up front, the orchestra behind them, and all players are heard with a singular clarity, the sound also conveying the music’s warmth. If you’re looking for something new that will prove so ingratiating it quickly becomes familiar, this disc is it"

"The soloists are placed up front, the orchestra behind them, and all players are heard with a singular clarity, the sound also conveying the music’s warmth. The soloists, orchestra and conductor seem to have this music in their blood, and toss off its difficult passages with flair and ease. The readings sound natural and beguiling, and the engineering is first rate. If you’re looking for something new that will prove so ingratiating it quickly becomes familiar, this disc is it"

MUSICA
"After an excellent disc dedicated to Piazzolla’s music, Catemario comes back in the world of Tango with another production, this time with orchestra, involving the great Argentinean composer…Piazzolla’s double concerto has a great rhythmic energy and further here clearly emerges the inner lyric melancholy…Lacagnina’s Concerto-Serenata is a work of great depth and power…the elegant dialog between Catemario and the orchestra "

American Record Guide
"The Tirao is lovely. The music is melodic, reminiscent of Torroba...The orchistration is beautiful...The SACD recording is wonderful and sounds great"

15 Questions to Michael Zisman (Bandoneon)

Trying to track Michael Zisman's activities is like keeping up to date with everything that's happening on the music scene: For a second, it looks as though it can be done, but then you realise it was impossible right from the start. There's the Nuevo Tango Ensemble (where he left his first musical footprints in unison with his father Daniel Zisman), the Duo Zisman/Fulgido (a guitar/bandoneon collaboration), the Duo Tango2 (a violin/bandoneon collaboration, again with his father), the Bandoneon Duo M&M (you'll be able to guess yourself what kind of collaboration this is), the Michael Zisman Trio (which has two incarnations, either as a Jazz- or a Tango-ensemble), the cool and smooth sounds of Horn Knox, Jazzoneon and the partnership with his namesake Michael Zisman, the bass player. No wonder some of the greatest names in the tango scene have compared this man to Mozart and Piazzolla and called Zisman the future of the tango. Dizzy yet? Then read on and find out about Michael's "constant desire to create" and refusing to torture his shower with his singing.....

Description:

„Tango is a melancholy thought you can dance to” said Enrique Santos Discépolo, one of the most famous artists of this genre. At the beginning of the 19th century many immigrants, especially Italians, flocked to the capital of Argentina. The people dreamed of a better life but soon had to face the reality of social hostility. Of all their dashed hopes, only the Tango remained: an elegant dance with a  sensual side. This was a dance that enabled the men to get very close to the few women, giving them the chance to express their strength, fears and loneliness through this music.

Composers like Astor Piazolla, Oscar Emilio (Cacho) Tirao and Oliviero Lacagnina were so fascinated by the Tango that they were moved to pay homage to this music by composing their own tango works. ARTS Music now proudly presents their fascinating works in a collection called “Conciertango” on Hybrid SACD with multichannel surround sound. Be immersed in a world full of melancholy and let the elegance of the tango overcome you.
