Lekeu was a Belgian composer who already died at the age of 24 in 1894. Though he is almost unknown today he was regarded as a genius by Claude Debussy and by his teachers C‚sar Franck and Vincent D'Indy. His style was influenced by Franck, Wagner and especially Beethoven. In expressing deepest emotions and in combining them to a whole plot, however, he developed music further than any of these composers. On this CD we discover Guillaume Lekeu in his piano trio and in his last and unfinished piece - the piano quartet. The Munich based Spiller Trio, formed by first chairs of the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra (Antonio Spiller - violin, Wen-Sinn Yang - cello and the awarded pianist Silvia Natiello-Spiller) perform this music with great intensity and vigour. a highly gifted but neglected composer
- two of Lekeu's most intense pieces
- a stunning performance of the Munich based Spiller Trio
