Four CDs dedicated to the Mendelssohn's youthful Symphonies for strings. A complete edition that shows a different aspect of the composer's artistical life, far from the full romantic views of his major symphonies but nevertheless interesting and compelling. The recordings, released by the polish group Amadeus Chamber Orchestra conducted by Mrs. Agnieszka Duczmal, are fresh, alive and they include all ritornellos following a critical edition of the works. The same musicians appear also on Arts 47287-2 (Tchaikovsky/Dvorak: Serenade for strings). CD 1 includes the first six symphonies (47292-2), CD 2 symphonies Nos. 7-8 (47293-2) CD 3 symphonies Nos. 9-10 (47294) and CD 4 the symphonies Nos. 11 & 12 (47295-2).
